In Spain 🇪🇸, lunar eclipses 🌕 are popular events among both professional astronomers 🔭 and the general public. In recent years, people have gathered in cities and rural areas with the best views 🌄 to witness these rare occurrences 🌟. It is also common for the event to be celebrated with stargazing parties 🎉 and educational activities 🎓.
In this video from RTVE Noticias, experts explain what a total lunar eclipse is, how it happens, and the scientific importance of these phenomena.
On 7th September 2025, a total lunar eclipse will take place, a rare astronomical phenomenon visible from much of Spain. This type of eclipse happens when the Earth is between the Sun and the Moon, and the Moon enters the Earth's shadow, turning red, known as the 'Blood Moon'.
This eclipse will be special because it will be visible throughout the country, with the best visibility in the northern zone and Canary Islands. The event will last for approximately 1 hour and 12 minutes, reaching its peak at 22:11 hours (local time).
The eclipse will be an important event for astronomers and astronomy enthusiasts, as these phenomena don’t occur frequently. Scientists will use this opportunity to conduct research on the Moon's atmosphere and its behaviour during these events.
