### 📝 Cultural note In Spain, rural areas have traditionally been associated with an older population. However, in recent years, there has been a significant shift with younger people moving to the countryside due to the lower cost of living and the ability to work remotely. This trend reflects broader societal changes, including a more flexible working environment post-pandemic. Living in rural areas is increasingly seen as an alternative lifestyle choice, offering peace, space, and a closer connection to nature. ### **🎥 Video: Spain looks to repopulate rural areas** In this video from **France 24**, Spain's efforts to encourage young people and new residents to move to rural areas are highlighted, showcasing the initiatives aimed at repopulating these places. The report provides examples of grants and efforts to revitalise rural areas, a growing trend in various parts of the country.   [![test + free lesson](https://hubspot-no-cache-eu1-prod.s3.amazonaws.com/cta/default/144185739/interactive-185741846769.png)](https://blog.soyguiri.com/hs/cta/wi/redirect?encryptedPayload=AVxigLLdOcIKxt9V6qktzp30zS3PMb6OAbq2Ru64b2ys3Gmb%2BX6Yve%2Bh0h7e1qqAYTUxUkWjreAcl%2BnLyuvcHTdGO7VFp0wXaL4Y8lcAgZikil3b6V%2FdYjq3t2YqDnwKHhSvWLJcT7AOFiAF%2F0OTsfkdvjZXrE%2BBShJZYBk5RsDbdKUpHfBuU7QzmoU2ND0DJAPNO5d639xo8zpioXTVwN9i&webInteractiveContentId=185741846769&portalId=144185739) ### 🇬🇧 **Translation (British English)** ### 🏡 **The housing boom in rural areas: young people moving to the countryside** *In recent years, more and more young people are choosing to move to **rural areas** 🌳 due to the lower **housing** 🏠 prices and the possibility of **working remotely** 💻. **Big cities** 🏙️ like Madrid and Barcelona have seen housing prices rise constantly, making it difficult for many people, especially young people, to find affordable living.* *Traditionally, **rural areas** were seen as places for older people to retire, but now they are experiencing a **boom** 📈 in demand for homes. Young people value the **peace** 😌, **connection with nature** 🌿, and, most importantly, the fact that they can **work remotely** from anywhere.* *One of the main reasons for this shift is the **pandemic** 🦠, which forced many companies to **adapt** to **remote work** and, as a result, people no longer have to live in **big cities** to work. This has allowed people to discover the advantages of living in the countryside: more space, less **pollution** 🚗, and a more relaxed lifestyle.* *Housing prices in rural areas are, in many cases, 50% cheaper than in cities. Furthermore, **local governments** are offering **subsidies** 💰 and support to encourage people to settle in these areas. This trend is expected to continue in the coming years, with more young people looking to establish themselves in rural areas and contribute to their **development**.* ### 📚 **Vocabulario destacado (Spanish words + English explanations)** 🌳  **Zonas rurales** → Rural areas 🏠  **Vivienda** → Housing 💻  **Teletrabajar** → To work remotely 🏙️  **Grandes ciudades** → Big cities 📈  **Boom** → Boom, rapid growth 😌  **Tranquilidad** → Calm, peace 🌿 **Contacto con la naturaleza** → Contact with nature 🦠  **Pandemia** → Pandemic 🧑‍💻  **Adaptarse** → To adapt 🚗  **Contaminación** → Pollution 💰  **Subvenciones** → Grants, subsidies 👥  **Gobiernos locales** → Local governments 🌍  **Desarrollo** → Development [![CTA grande - Clase gratuita](https://hubspot-no-cache-eu1-prod.s3.amazonaws.com/cta/default/144185739/interactive-185746953443.png)](https://blog.soyguiri.com/hs/cta/wi/redirect?encryptedPayload=AVxigLIIY7HNnHvGR0R9RRP2yERUXeV0T1dFJlq10099PMB8UxOl%2BH4GbofctINj8QBvXw%2BV7qtb%2BdsnqQUQ83cym8ep64Sq3Td39OTtOR1MINu%2BjHaQfSGymfmFk4HeE4vZ85WgrbS8l4cpMnuG23Ze3c9pk5LjZwy%2FaZyfBn22QZP%2BmvsnKNxWA4yYCsKXDNWc%2FDFO28%2FfpYoEqgE9LsL4&webInteractiveContentId=185746953443&portalId=144185739)   📝 **Reading comprehension exercise** 1\. **A)** Que la gente vuelva a las grandes ciudades **B)** Que el boom se detenga **C)** Que el fenómeno siga creciendo y más jóvenes se muden al campo ✅ Check Answers   ### Keep learning Spanish: - [![Driving in Spain](https://blog.soyguiri.com/hubfs/Imagen%20-%20Post%20-%203%20best%20ways-Jun-09-2026-08-07-25-1462-AM.png)](https://blog.soyguiri.com/driving-in-spain) #### [🚗 Driving in Spain: what surprises foreigners the most?🇪🇸☀️](https://blog.soyguiri.com/driving-in-spain) [Read more](https://blog.soyguiri.com/driving-in-spain) - [![I think in Spanish](https://blog.soyguiri.com/hubfs/Imagen%20-%20Post%20-%203%20best%20ways%20(2)-Jun-18-2026-10-43-52-1643-AM.png)](https://blog.soyguiri.com/i-think-in-spanish) #### [🧠'I think' in Spanish: sound natural and confident in conversations💭](https://blog.soyguiri.com/i-think-in-spanish) [Read more](https://blog.soyguiri.com/i-think-in-spanish) - [![](https://blog.soyguiri.com/hubfs/pleased-good-looking-happy-man-with-ginger-hair-brislte-showing-thumbs-up-smiling-broadly-giving-positive-feedback-sharing-his-positive-opinion-grey-wall_176420-27439.avif)](https://blog.soyguiri.com/bueno-in-spanish) #### [More than "good": how to master the word "bueno" like a native 🌟](https://blog.soyguiri.com/bueno-in-spanish) [Read more](https://blog.soyguiri.com/bueno-in-spanish) - [![Spanish latte](https://blog.soyguiri.com/hubfs/Imagen%20-%20Post%20-%203%20best%20ways%20(1)-Jun-16-2026-09-41-39-0376-AM.png)](https://blog.soyguiri.com/spanish-latte) #### [☕ Spanish Latte: what is it and why is everyone talking about it?☝️](https://blog.soyguiri.com/spanish-latte) [Read more](https://blog.soyguiri.com/spanish-latte) ### 💬 **And you?** Would you consider moving to a rural area?
